Using the LiteSpeed Cache Image Optimisation tool in WordPress

This is a companion guide to our Installing the WordPress LiteSpeed cache plug-in and How to optimise your WordPress site guides.

You'll need to have the WordPress LiteSpeed cache plug-in installed to follow this guide. We also suggest you follow the advise on the WordPress optimisation guide to pre-optimise your images - ensure they are sized correctly and at a suitable resolution (dpi) before uploading and using then on your site.

When using the LiteSpeed cache plug-in we strongly suggest that to avoid any issues you remove and other caching or optimisation plug-ins. Further, if you decide to use the LiteSpeed Cache Image Optimisation tool we suggest you remove any other image compression or optimisation plug-ins.

The LiteSpeed Cache Image Optimisation tool converts your uploaded image files to the more efficient .webp format. Within the LiteSpeed Cache > Advanced Options > Media tab you can then configure LiteSpeed to automatically serve these .webp optimised images across your site.

LIteSpeed have produced two guides with a complete walk-through of the Image Optimisation Tool which we link to below.

Please note the following links point to external guides, produced by LiteSpeed - they will contain the most up-to-date detail regarding the options available.

The first walks through the use of the LiteSpeed Cache Image Optimisation tool - external link opens in a new window.

The second guide details the options and settings with then LiteSpeed Cache > Advanced Settings > Media tab including how to have images auto-optimised and auto-replaced with the optimised .webp versions. LiteSpeed media configuration - external link opens in a new window.
